Now here's a connection

So Herb's father was Herbert Leo Carroll Sr. The 1920 census finds that Herbert Leo Sr. was 24 years old, living on Foye avenue in Weymouth with his mother, Hannah who was 55 and two younger brothers, William 23 and Frederick 19. Hannah and the boys were born in Massachusetts. Hannah's mother and father were born in Ireland and the boys' father was born in Ireland. Herb Sr was a shipfitter in the shipyard, William was a chauffeur for a trucking company and Frederick was a shoeworker in a shoe shop.

Now it gets interesting. Herb Jr's mother, your grandmother or great grandmother Flora, according to the 1920 census, was living in Weymouth at 55 Vine St with her sister Bertha B Johnson. Bertha was 25 then and had arrived here in 1911. Flora was 20 and had arrived in 1914. They were born in Norway (no surprise) and both parents were as well. They both were shoeworkers in a shoe shop. Guess who may have brought Flora and Herb Sr. together? Brother Frederick -- shoeworker in a shoe shop. Cool Huh? Oh, but wait a minute. Flora was 20, Frederick was 19, perhaps Frederick was dating Flora and Herb stepped in. That may be why no one remembers Uncle Frederick. Yikes!

Here are the two census documents from 1920..... this one is Flora....make it larger and look for Johnson in the left hand column.

This one is for Herb Sr and family Enjoy!
